Built in 1992, this unique 1360 sq.ft. passive solar home has two floors. Structure is made of 4" thick concrete (Shotcrete). Insulation over the top of the earth-covered dome is approximately 6" thick sprayed-on foam. 2" thick foam insulates the sides. The front wall is 6" studs filled with spray foam. Expandable connection for second dome is roughed in. Worth seeing.

Heating is mostly the sun, a small fireplace, and a natural gas hot water heater feeding a radiant-hydronic floor. Worst typical winter monthly heat bill is $40. Cooling cost is minimal with a very small AC unit used mainly to take out the humidity in the worst summer months.

Just a bit off the beaten path; best to call for directions.

The Alternate Energy Association (AEA) was established in SW Ohio in 1978 to explore, evaluate and promote alternate energy solutions. AEA was premised on the idea that the energy choices we make as individuals and groups have great impact on our environment and our future. AEA offers discussion, meeting and demonstration opportunities for persons and groups interested in, learning about, implementing or using renewable energies, efficiency and conservation in their homes and workplaces.

To become a member of AEA, go to our homepage www.aea1.org, scroll down & click on "Join Us". Follow instructions to participate in our listserver. There is temporarily no charge to join us!

AEA is not a part of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), Green Energy of Ohio (GEO) or any other sponsors of the national solar tour. AEA thanks ASES, GEO, all sponsors and site hosts for supporting events like this tour!
