EarthConnection Ecological Demonstration Center
370 Neeb Rd., upper east lot of Mt. St. Joseph College
Delhi, suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio; 513-451-3932

OPEN FOR TOURS ONLY TILL 3:30 p.m. this date.

Founded by Sr. Paula Gonzalez, completed in 1995, this 3,900 sq ft superinsulated, well-daylit structure is passive solar, with large 4-pane south windows, a sunspace, big overhangs, few east or west windows and operable windows for natural ventilation. The upper south roof is covered by a grid-tied 1.3 kW solar PV array. A lower south roof supports 360 sf of solar thermal collectors that heat the slab in winter and potable water year-round. In summer, solar heat is stored below ground for next winter. A ground-source heatpump provides back-up heating and cooling. All backup and security lighting is fluorescent and halogen.

The building contains many used and recycled materials, both in original and altered forms. Kitchen and bathrooms feature low-volume faucets and plumbing fixtures.

The Alternate Energy Association (AEA) was established in SW Ohio in 1978 to explore, evaluate and promote alternate energy solutions. AEA was premised on the idea that the energy choices we make as individuals and groups have great impact on our environment and our future. AEA offers discussion, meeting and demonstration opportunities for persons and groups interested in, learning about, implementing or using renewable energies, efficiency and conservation in their homes and workplaces.

To become a member of AEA, go to our homepage www.aea1.org, scroll down & click on "Join Us". Follow instructions to participate in our listserver. There is temporarily no charge to join us!

AEA is not a part of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), Green Energy of Ohio (GEO) or any other sponsors of the national solar tour. AEA thanks ASES, GEO, all sponsors and site hosts for supporting events like this tour!
