Sorry you missed it but to those who attended it was a great tour. You can still see it on the web and contact the owners via "E-mail". Check out the link below.

This year's tour featured four homes, each showing alternatives in design, construction and lifestyle decisions which reduce energy consumption and negative environmental impacts compared with local conventions.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 16, 1999
You Missed It but locations are listed below

AEA's Tour #18!

This year's tour featured five homes, two businesses and one ecological demonstration and learning center, each showing alternatives in design, construction and lifestyle decisions which reduce energy consumption and negative environmental impacts compared with local conventions. Four of the locations have been on past tours, but four locations were new to AEA's tour this year and are listed below. This year's tour was the first to feature a business using alternate energies!

All locations had a designer, owner and/or builder present to guide you and elaborate on the design, construction, special products and operating features. The business entry, Van Melle, had AEA member hosts Joe Davis and Solar Cell installer Randy Sizemore of Entropy Ltd. in the parking lot and lobby to point out the many features that were considered in the building design which were not readily visible and share photos of areas not visible from the ground.

The tour featured structures of various types that all have considerable merit. The purpose of the tour is to show alternatives in design, construction, and the life style decisions of the people which, in turn, reduces energy costs and negative environmental impacts (Our Belief and Mission Statement). This year we visited new projects and revisit several projects that have been on previous tours to see how the designs and building systems have been able to incorporate these alternatives. We are also visiting several businesses that have shown promise with their alternate energy efforts. The owners and/or designers were at each location to elaborate on the design, construction, and operating features of the buildings.

Although you missed the 97, 98 and now the 99 tours, their page links remain also so you can at least tour them in cyberspace. Contact ASES or our committee for information about next years tour.

AEA would like to thank the American Solar Energy Society for their assistance and support of alternative energy efforts. The organization has a vast network of resources and literature to support their efforts.
